Read moreThe NZ Holidays Lord of the Rings Package deal made it an easy self-drive holiday with tours and accommodation included, (it would have been way too difficult to line everything up ourselves - tours/accommodation, etc). Rana was very helpful and friendly in answering all our questions and adding components like extra days to our package. We booked only 8 weeks ahead.
Most accommodation was great, only two average places we stayed - Ramada, Wellington (for a 4 year old build it was very run down, but the staff were excellent), and Holiday Inn Queenstown (be prepared to pay $20 per night for parking outside your hotel room, which was clean and tidy but also run down, but the staff were excellent).
LoTRs tour to Edoras by Hassle-Free Tours, is not hassle-free. Pick up was a fiasco and we were blamed by the tour guide for being at the 'wrong pick up place' (in-front of other passengers) even though we rang the day before to confirm and pick up location was on our package itinerary, its also a very expensive tour for what you get, we'd recommend doing this tour yourself.
LoTRs tour to Glenorchy by Nomad Safaris was ok, staff friendly and knowledgeable, but the tour company could put a bit more effort into it.
LoTRs tour to Hobbiton was a highlight of our package - not to be missed! Excellent from start to finish (you will fill like a hobbit from Hobbiton by the end of the day and not want to leave).
LoTRs Weta Studio Tour Wellington was also excellent, back of house tour with how they made characters, costumes, weapons, really a lot to take in.
The Mou Waho Island Cruise and Walk from Wanaka by Eco Adventures Wanaka was also a highlight of our package, the most enjoyable morning with the best tour guide, and we were fortunate to see a Weta and a Weka in the wild, a tour not to be missed, truly an eco-tour which we enjoyed.
We had no problems with checking into each accommodation stay (though check in time is 3pm everywhere) or picking up/dropping off car, that was all very easy.
Overall excellent package for LoTRs fans. -

12 Day Great Rail Adventure
Read moreWe did the 3 Train Journey experience, and added a few extra days at the start, with car hire and travelled from Christchurch around Dunedin, Invercargill and stayed at Te Anau. So glad that was suggested to do it that way, as we headed off to Milford sound from Te Anau instead of Queenstown which was initially as it made for a more manageable day, and reduced the bus times by 4 hours, which made a great day. We met up with others who said the day was too long, and they didn't have time to explore Queenstown, which we did. Also if you can afford the Scenic Plus upgrade go for it, it was fantastic, and to me worth every cent.

Well organised. Lovely hotels. Great food. Best bus with so much leg room. Experienced driver with so much knowledge and tour leader with knowledge and expertise. All went according to plan including pick up and drop off at airport.

Read moreThis was a great holiday. I went on a 15-night adventure with my daughter. We had the most incredible time. Everything was so well organised for us. And great communication when our accommodation was changed. The whole trip was very enjoyable. The accommodation was good, all motel style rooms. The location of most motels were great, except for the Cable Court accommodation in Dunedin. We felt like we were in the middle of the Bronx haha. Overall, it was a great trip, and I’d recommend to book through New Zealand Holidays

Everything was well organized and a smooth trip. The scenery was beautiful and the extra features were amazing, except perhaps the Ice Bar. It would be better to do the gondola trip.

We needed more time at each town, 2 nights at each one meant only one day to explore the area. At least one extra night per town so you have 2 whole days to explore the area. Also include an option to upgrade motels and even the rental car.

12 Day Great Rail Adventure
Did not have any problems with anything. I would have preferred to have been asked what type of accommodations we would have liked. We had 2 nights in a "caravan" park that I would have preferred to have not been in. Otherwise all information was in the email we received. Just didn't know some of the information was a little more hidden.
